1. My heel pain is not good. It would appear, through my diligent WebMd’ing research that I have either bursitis or insertional tendinitis. I can run through it because it doesn’t hurt when I get warmed up but it hurts when I wake up and after I run. I definitely don’t want to make it worse but I’m not throwing in the towel just yet. I’m going to back off the mileage a bit for the next four weeks and take a big, fat taper and see how it goes. Then after Jacksonville, I’ll take proper time off to let it heal. I’m not really freaking at this point because I’ve been injured before and there’s not much that freaking out can do to fix a darn thing. (And of course, I’m R.I.C.E.ing my face off.)
2. I got an early Christmas present from the S.O. and Lloyd got a haircut.
I’m too sexy for this mug. Too sexy for this mug… |
3. I’m pretty stoked to go to the Sprinkles! event on Saturday, which is a holiday cookie decorating fundraiser put on by St. Anthony’s Hospital and hosted at the lovely Renaissance Vinoy Resort in St. Pete. and then follow it up that night with a Tampa Bay Lightning hockey game. Gonna be an awesome weekend!
Ever had heel issues? What’s on your agenda for the weekend?
Have I had heel issues??? Honey, you know it. Put up with that sh*t for over two years. As you know, I tried everything under the sun for the PF pain I had. Let's see, there were 2 cortisone shots, but that was after I had tried store-bought orthotics, deep-tissue massage, strassbourg sock at night, ice, rolling it on a golfball, stretching, rest, etc. The only thing that worked (and I went in with VERY low expectations) was the custom orthotics. Somehow, they worked! I hope you find relief soon. XO.
Ugh! Wish I could help with the heel issues! I want to go to a Sprinkle party!!! This weekend we have breakfast with Santa and a Christmas parade….let the holiday craze begin!!
Heel issues suck out loud! Make sure you are rolling and stretching your calves, too. Tight calves can make the heels hurt more (she says with experience :/ ) My only plans for the weekend are to survive my 14 mile long run and then watch a friend's son perform in Spamalot.
I have battled heel pain, PF and Achilles issues for the past year and the thing that really is working for me is specific foot strengthening exercises. Everything else (ICE, boots, rest, etc) is just treating the symptoms, not the cause.
I highly recommend Eric Orton's book Cool Impossible and his foot strength training program. Its done wonders for me. You can get info on them both at https://www.born2run.com/strength-training
Good luck!
Bummer about the heel pain. I hope it resolves quickly.
I've battled chronic PF for years. The strasbourg sock at night, icing and stretching, and ART/Graston have worked well, but I still have occasional flare ups. I really hope you don't have PF and that you heal quickly!!
Oh no! I hope the big, fat taper works at least some magic. That sucks!
A holiday cookie decorating party?? Umm, yes please!! And I love that mug…very funny.
Bummed the heel thing is still going on! Wish I could suggest something. At least Dr WebMD doesn't seem to think it's serious.
LOL on the mug! I want one! What did we do before Al Gore invented the internet? I google so many wacky symptoms these days. Hope the heel starts to get better soon dammit. 🙁
Oh sorry to hear of your pain! I would suggest you to:
1-Do stretching and strengthening exercises.
2-Avoid sitting too long and not walking enough.
3-Maintain a healthy weight.
4-Avoid wearing heels over 2 inches on a regular basis. Wear comfortable shoes and if needed insert an orthotic insert in it.
5-Ice your leg for about 20 to 30 minutes every three to four hours for two to three days or until the pain is gone to reduce pain and swelling.
I hope these tips would help you in alleviating your heel pain.
