Today, I am thankful* for Gloria Gaynor and my bike Dolly. Both have provided inspiration and a back drop for surviving my quest to be a triathlete. Enjoy!
First I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never ride without falling on my side
But I spent so many rides thinking how you did me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to clip shoes on
and so you’re back for another race
I just rode in to find you here with that sad look upon your face
I could have changed my bike pedal
I could have made you race clip free
If I had known for just one second you’d be back to bother me
Go on now go ride out the door
just turn around now ’cause fallinβs not welcome anymore
weren’t you the one who tried to hurt me with the ride
you think I’d crumble
you think I’d fall down and lie
*Chorus*
Oh no, not I
I will survive
as long as i know how to clip
I know I will stay alive
I’ve got all my life to ride
I’ve got all my races to glide
and I’ll survive
I will survive
It took all the strength I had not to fall or slip
kept trying hard to mend the pieces of my sore, bruised hip
and I spent oh so many rides just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
Now I ride my bike and fly
and you see me
somebody new
I’m not that falling up little person still scared of you
and so you felt like dropping in
and just expect me to clip free
now I’m saving all my riding for some clips who are loving me
Besides, my masterful re-tooling of this classic earworm, what are you thankful for today?
*Yeah, this was my Thankful Thursday post…until I realized it was Wednesday thanks to Detroit Runner! LOL!
I love it!!! You're going to do great π
I'm thankful it's only Wednesday! Haha!
As Rip Torn said to David Bowie in The Man Who Fell to Earth: "Ad Astra Per Aspera." And I am thankful this cold isn't any worse than it is.
I am thankful you were not writing songs during the disco era!
π
Look out Chrissie Wellington and Miranda Carfrae the I am going to conquer this if it kills me bug has struck our dear friend BOB….life is going to be great for you and triathlon will have nothing on you.
I am thankful I can not suffer an injury poking on FB
Oh Great now I'm thinking it's Thurs!! This will make for a long week, great song btw!!
Awesome post BoB!!! This is great stuff!
I love it. But what a bummer to find out it is Wednesday and not Thursday.
HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA this is hilarious!!!!!
Omg that's hilarious. I got a road bike for my birthday, and while I'm a very strong spinner, I was definitely "petrified" for my first outdoor ride. Glad to see it's not just me who was terrified at first π
