I know you all have seen the “captcha” box that pops up on some blogs to make you verify that you aren’t a spammer-robot. I have gone back and forth on keeping this on my blog and I’ve got different reasons for the yo-yo’ing.
-
I hate making my friends do the captcha thing, but without it, I get TONS of spam comments
-
If I allow anonymous comments then my non-blog friends can comment without creating a profile
-
Most of you HATE the captcha
-
Most of you HATE spam
This basically leaves me where we are today and I may change my mind after you all comment but I had to point out a funny comment I got the other day that shows that spammers will get around just about anything to post to your blog.
I recently opened my email to read this, seemingly really nice comment:
“Anonymous has left a new comment on your post “Cystic Fibrosis Cycle for Life”:
I’m really impressed with your writing skills and also with
the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it
yourself? Either way keep up the excellent quality writing, it’s rare
to see a great blog like this one nowadays.”
Aw. How nice right? So, I scroll down and read:
“My blog post; Penis Enlargement Bible Review (http://Penis-Enlargement-Bible-Reviews.blogspot.com/)”
First of all, DO NOT GO TO THAT SITE. Not that I did, but it’s more than likely spam or a virus or just something that may make you blind yourself on purpose. Second of all, W T F is a “penis enlargement bible review?” I just about died when I read that and of course had to forward it to some friends. I cannot make that crap up.
The other funny blog stuff, is that when I go to see what search topics have brought people to my little blog here. While the term “discombobulated running” is the most searched, it’s followed (not closely, thank God) by “kool aid man,” “pimps and hoes,” and “unicorns and rainbows.”
Impressive!!! You made it up there with the Kool-Aid Man!!! Too funny!
My number 1 search term is Fat Athlete. Go figure. I also got the Penis comment, exactly the same verbiage. Obviously a bot. Maybe it's about praying for a big penis?
Somehow I've avoided having much spam even without captcha. There is a setting to disallow anonymous comments and that seems to do the trick
Too funny! I have the captcha box on mine, but even still I've had a couple of weird comments from strangers. One woman asked if I would consider her as a guest blogger on my blog "A Football Fancy." I was like, no.
Bahahahaha, with those being your top searches, no wonder I love this blog!
That comment is too freaking funny. I've avoided the code thing by using intense debate. This means I have to "approve" of all comments but it works most of the time. A few of my friends it always thinks are spam which is unfortunate. The real spam it catches is pretty funny though – but not as funny as a penis enhancing bible.
Haha, that's awesome!! I wish I could tell if search terms bring people to my blog. I use WordPress and I find the stats difficult to look at. Maybe it's because I've only been doing this for 4 months and am just really bad at blog stuff…who knows! LOL
I will say that WordPress is somehow really good at blocking spam. I think I've literally only once received a notification to approve a comment that was actual spam. The rest of the time it just shoves them in the spam comment folder for me to review whenever.
hahah amazing.
Koolaid Koolaid, tastes great…wish I had some, can't wait!
This totally counts as a song because my mom would sing it to me when we were kids drinking koolaid!
I haven't checked my stats in awhile… I don't get penis links though. Maybe if you cleaned it up around here you'd get less spam! 😉 I hate the captcha… but I understand if you get spam daily.
I've been looking for a lot of penis enlargement methods but the only one that worked for me is penis enlargement bible. It's an effective and money saver method.
