I assume we all survived Thanksgiving and Black Friday and Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday which brings us to: Where’d All My Money Go Tuesday and that really only leaves us with a full month of holiday mayhem and tomfoolery. Oh boy! Again, I’m not a huge fan of the holidays but there are a few events that I’m quite fond of that only happen this time of year.
One of my faves has already come and gone and that’s the annual Turkey Trot. I love the Turkey Trot. It brings out so many people and I love the 5K. It’s nice to run fast and pukey.
While I didn’t hit a PR last week, I did manage to come in 66th out of the top 125 ladies to receive my always favorite Turkey Trot mug. It’s nice and big for extra coffee. I ran a 22:38 if you must know and that makes me happy because, while it did feel hard, it shows my fitness isn’t too far off from finally breaking that ever elusive 22 minutes. And I’m not moving backwards, hallelujah!
In addition to the Turkey Trot the holiday season brings about a few other favorite things. I do love a funny holiday movie and can’t wait to watch Elf, Scrooged, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and of course, A Christmas Story. I’m running a holiday themed run or two and I’m sure there will be some sort of costume action for at least one of these. It may not be Halloween but I’ll find a reason to dress in a costume dammit!
Speaking of holiday races, my half marathon on December 9th is shaping up to be a Ragnar training run. I am not really in half mary PR shape so I may just go out there and wing it. I’m excited to run this race since I haven’t done it before and a few of my faves will be out there with me. I’ve consistently been running my ten mile long runs on the weekends but I need to step it up a notch before me and eleven friends run from Miami to the Keys.
One more thing, I started taking Play Again yesterday. According to the website Play Again is a liquid that helps lubricate and replenish joint fluid lost during exercise and the natural aging process. The company was kind enough to send me some bottles to sample. Lots of pro athletes take it and I’m excited to see how well it works. Stay tuned for that review and feel free to ask me any questions. I’m paying close attention to it.
How was your long weekend? Shop til you drop? Run in a Turkey Trot?
Ragnar Relay in FLA is going to have a few people I know. Jen roe and Jen Small are running it as well. Do you follow/know them? If so definitely need to hook up and if not I need to introduce y'all.
I think today is actually being called green Tuesday. Let's call tomorrow Wednesday. It'll be so retro to do that.
I am so jealous that you are running Ragnar Keys! That should be so much fun 😀 I did not run a turkey trot for the first time in years. My foot is still cooking (as my nephew put it).
I was broke before the weekend, so no shopping for me. Some of the adds did make me drool, but I'm blessed to not "need" anything. Spent the weekend eating pie and playing croquet.
I got "Nicked" at the same Turkey Trot you ran. I'd have won if it weren't for those meddling kids/fast people.
On another note:
See you at Ragnar Keys!
The Gingerbread Men Ride Again!!
I've watched Elf twice already….oh three times… 😉
Elf and Scrooged are in my holiday "to watch" bin as well. Not the other two, though, because I kinda hate 'em.
Good luck with your upcoming race. Your 5k PR is fantastic! Super inspirational to me 🙂
22 is vomit territory for me in 5K land. you a star.
We did hit the turkey trot on turkey day and I did hit a nice PR for a 5 mile race! Then I hit the turkey every day since then so i've been getting lots of sleep.
Good approach to the half. Just go out there and have fun.
Congrats on your Turkey Trot!! Christmas Story is quite possibly the best holiday movie ever. Costume idea-Leg Lamp. Lampshade, some fringe, and fishnet stockings and you are good to go. Important advice-don't bike in fishnets, you WILL regret it later, ouch.
Speedy pants. I would definitely leave my guts all over the finish line at 22min, but I'm shooting for 23-24min territory after I finish the Brandon Half. I hate that my only 5k was my very first run ever- slowwwww.
I didn't shop Black Friday, Small Biz Sat, or Cyber Monday. But yesterday for "go-for-broke Tuesday" I happened to buy Christmas presents. I'm so backwards.
Way to go on that 5k! Only a little shopping on black friday…I hate dealing with the crowds!
you said tomfoolery! love it! also, i heart elf… smiling is my favorite!
