Happy Monday friends! I got in my first-over-ten-mile-Jacksonville-Marathon-training-run on Saturday and it was great. I ran with my running buddy from the old hood, Kristen. We started really early to beat the heat and Kristen was nice enough to travel my way and tackle three bridges for breakfast.
This run was actually a first for me in a way many of you may find surprising. You see, I am a water carrying virgin. That’s right. In my four years of long distance running I have never carried water. I’ve never worn a water a belt and I’ve never really needed to. I used to always plan routes that had water stops along the way. And I have always been fortunate to never run a race that was lacking in water.
This all changed when I moved closer to the beach. Yes, there’s TONs of water around me now but not a drop to drink. Yes, yes, just like the poem. And while I have found some water fountains, they aren’t exactly the coldest, tastiest purveyors of water. In addition, the last few times I’ve run with a group, everyone carried water but me. I was the asshole who kept making everyone stop to get water. My bad.
So, after being part shamed (I’m talking to you Teresa and Holly and Scott) and part grossed out by random bad water fountains, I decided I needed to carry my own water. Fortunately, there’s a cute little women’s running store by my new crib and the S.O. bought me this:

I was worried about wearing it because I have again NEVER worn a water belt but it turned out fine. The angle helps because it doesn’t jab you in the back (or butt). I think so long as I wear a shirt on these long runs I don’t have to worry about chafing and I can stop being the girl who makes everyone stop nine hundred times for water. Hooray!
I got in my 13 miles and Kristen tackled 16. We finished and were all sweat and smiles post run.
One of the best things about living near the beach, at least in my opinion, is all the wacky tourist stuff. I’m a sucker for beach shops and I adore beach side restaurants. With all of the shark punching talk lately, this place, that I’ve passed about a hundred times, jumped out at me. I had to get a picture for you guys.

I keep telling the S.O. that I want to go on that boat. He finds this hilarious and can’t believe I have fallen for the old turned-a-boat-into-a-shark routine. I’m going on that boat dammit. Who wants to join me? I’d be so obnoxious on it, making terrible shark jokes and Jaws references. And let’s not forget Land Shark.
After my run on Saturday I celebrated my stepmom’s birthday with a big plate of mushroom ravioli and got in a bit of shopping and some errands and slept in on Sunday. And late Sunday afternoon I hosted an open water swim with some friends. Luckily, no shark punching occurred.

I hope you all had great weekends!
Thanks for the run this wknd! I enjoyed myself even on those bridges!! Lol Glad u like your new water bottle thingy- def comes in handy especially in this weather!
I never carry water with me when I run either because I am afraid I will become to depended on it. With that said, you make carrying water look fashionable. Did you get the bottle from Lola’s Laces in Safety Harbor? I want to check that store out! They left water on Bayshore on my long run Saturday. I was so grateful and will check them out because of it.
Nice job on your long run this weekend!! I carried water with me last night in my Nathan handheld for the first time in a long time, and it helped to not only have water but also to not keep checking my watch the whole time. I carried it in my left hand. The mushroom ravioli sounds yummy! And I'll see you at BDR! I'm already registered.
ooooo I like your water belt. I have one with two smaller bottles that barely quench your thirst on those hot days.
Id ride the shark boat with you. Only if Sharknados were not in the forecast. I hate when those make landfall
I don't know how you've managed to never carry water this long, but welcome to the land of water carrying. Ugh. I have never graduated to anything past my little handheld though, so I guess you've actually taken it further than me.
