Thanks for all of the wonderful comments on my uber long race report! I realized I forgot to mention that I did take a gel right before the swim line got moving, even though it was hard to choke down. And I also did a pre-race two mile run on Saturday morning. I opted not to ride my bike and just manually lift it up and run through the gears. I was way too nervous to ride around downtown Chattanooga.
Since I know some of you are heading toward your first ironman or rolling over the idea of one in your mind, I figured a Q & A post might be helpful. Or not. Ya know, whatever. Haha.
That’s a bouquet of unicorns!!! |
Please feel free to ask any questions in the comments and I’ll answer them on Monday. You can ask about training, nutrition, race day, etc, etc. Just don’t ask about all the crap I have already eaten this week. 😉
Thanks again and have a great weekend!
Did you end up wearing your tri shorts on the bike? If so, what brand/type?
And great job again! Hoping to channel my inner badass this weekend with my first 70.3!
How can you not make training destroy all your relationships? I have a very social, active husband who loves doing things together on weekends and traveling/planning trips. How can I still maintain balance in my life on the weekends??? Or is that even an option? Also, when you had to travel on the weekends, what did you do about your long bike?
Nutrition plan please! I'm trying to figure out what to do on the bike. I use Osmo, and am debating stopping at special needs and swapping all bottles or using the powder and grabbing bottles at aide stations- but that sounds complicated to do while moving. But I've also been told not to rely on getting my special needs bag. Hm.
Should I do one?
I do have a few questions & thanx so much for asking….. How long was your swim warm up??? What gear do you start off the bike pout of T1??? Have you been fitted for your bike??? How often did you change your training shoes this past year??? Did you do very many brick sets this past summer??? And for today, how is your head space???…. Have a wonderful weekend & again, Gr8 Job!!!
Ohhh, me next!
Do you feel that your bike training was 'enough' for a hilly course?
Did you incorporate 2-A-Days into your training to fit everything in?
How did the Hokas hold up?
I don't understand the special needs bags – how do they keep track of your stuff so you find it relatively quickly? Same for bike bag and run bag. It seems like a lot of stuff for so many people.
Thanks for your answer to my question earlier. And yes, I shamelessly stole your monthly recap idea for my blog as well, but I did give you credit back when I stole it so I hope you agree that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery 🙂 I love your posts!
