It’s Friday and I have to confess that I have no confessions this week. Sorry to burst your bubbles. I suppose I could make some up but where’s the fun in that?
I’ve got another 17 mile run slated for tomorrow and I think I’m going solo on this one. I don’t mind the solo long run every now and again because I don’t talk and it helps save energy. Plus, I think this really helps hone in on the pace that I’m comfortable with. I will get some buddies for some future long runs but for tomorrow it’s just me, myself, and I.
On Sunday, I’ll be working from the wee hours of the morning until late afternoon for the Cystic Fibrosis Cycle For Life charity bike ride. I was asked to be on this committee last year and I’ve had a good time getting to know the committee members and seeing how to set up a large ride. It’s a lot of work and I think it’s made even tougher because it’s strictly not for profit. Everything for the ride has to be donated or fundraised for. I’m really proud of our group because we’ve done some great work this year. And of course, the cause makes it that much more worthwhile.
Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that effects the lungs and digestive system. Can you imagine not being able to breathe? And having shortness of breath all the time? It’s devastating. One thing I learned about CF that made me so sad was that because it’s not as widespread as other diseases it doesn’t get quite as much money for research. The CF Foundation is working to set up it’s own research facilities and raise money for the research that is so desperately needed.
There are CF Cycle for Life rides all over the country every year and they are lots of fun. Of course, I’m biased because I help create the fun. Here’s the link to see if there’s a CF ride near you: http://www.cff.org/GetInvolved/CycleForLife/. And if you are interested in working with CF just give them a shout.
Have a great weekend everyone! Good luck to those racing!
Ever worked on a charity board before? Do you mind fundraising?
Have fun tomorrow girlie! Good job today!
thanks for helping out with the charity ride! CF sucks!!! everyone deserves the right to breathe.
