Trial Run #1
Picture it, Orlando, January 2009, an under-trained B.o.B. gearing up to take on The Mouse. She only trained for a good 7 weeks and was told by various (READ: smart) coaches to not do it. But ignorance (and ego) is bliss and off she went. She finished in 5:17. In. Sheer. Total. Agony. It was a marathon shuffle the likes of which had never been seen. Remember that scene in Vacation, where Chevy Chase is trudging through the desert? Well, it was worse.
Our little B.o.B. could not have her only marathon be that one, so since she built up the mileage she thought, “what the hell, I’ll do Gasparilla in a couple of months.”
Trial Run #2
Picture it, a rainy, cold day in the beginning of March 2009, our silly little B.o.B. shows up for the Gasparilla Marathon not sure what to expect. She’s had a couple extra months of training and long runs and may make this her last marathon should she be pleased with it at the end.
It downpours.
She looks like a drowned rat at the finish, but ran a better time at 4:45. While happier with her time, she is sore as all get out and moving around like Sophia Petrillo from Golden Girls for the next three days. This will not be her last go round with the 26.2.
The Plan
This brings us to today. You all know I was in training for MCM when I got tendinitis. Boy, that sucked. But I am back to full health (other than the snot rockets from this stupid cold).
My new training plan is a bit less aggressive than the plan I was using before. While that plan certainly helped me get faster, it may have been too much for me. I have a bit less mileage in this one and can run 4 or 5 days instead of the 6 I was averaging before.
Thankfully, it still involves my hills (I’m coming for you Gangster!) and joy, of all joys, speed work!
With my new job and it’s later hours I am going to have to move stuff around to get all my training in. And by stuff, I mean my ass. Like, get it out of bed earlier on some days. Ugh, I hate the AM training. Oh well. For the redemption marathon, it’ll be worth it.
Happy Hump Day ladies and gents, get at ’em!
Sounds like a really good plan. I think I may have overtrained on my last one as well. Live and learn right? It's just such a pain filled lesson! Good luck with those snot rockets! Makes it kind of hard to breathe!
Great Post! I wish you success in your training for your next marathon. I am currently just building up my base and doing core workouts and stuff. As far as moving stuff around (lol), good luck with that. I work weird hours, 3pm to whatever time in the morning. I force myself to get up and go. It really sucks though not being to perform well due to only getting 3-4 hours of sleep. Hope you feel better soon and that your nose becomes dry like New Mexico too. Have a good one!
Speedwork is no fun…but darn if it doesn't work.
I just stumbled across your blog. It is great! Can't wait to read more as you train 🙂
I am from Tampa too but now live in Tallahassee. Wish I could do the Gasparilla this year..
I know you are gonna rock this one! And I love how you called the first two marathon's just training runs! You are gonna kill on this one!
So excited to go through the training journey with you! Hope you're feeling better 🙂
ohh how very exciting! I have been looking at another race to do..hmmm pondering this.
you know if you can do your weekly long run, a mid-week middle distance run and then throw in a few others when you have time, you'll be golden based on your fitness now
Fantastic! Now we can start a pool for when the Plan changes……….. I do love a plan!
Here's to the Plan!!! YAY!!! You are going to do great and you've had an entire year of "trials", training plans, injuries, etc… to grow from. If I weren't running it myself I would be your #1 spectator because I owe ya one! I can't wait for you to shine at the Finish line Boo!!!
Your marathon redemption will be SWEET! SOunds like a good plan – kick it in gear!
Oh Lord, reading your Trail 1 just freaked out my mojo! After taking 11 weeks off from marathon training I was stoked this morning to start back up with only 5 and 1/2 weeks until Disney, my first marathon! Should be interesting! LOL…. probably make it a trail run for myself as well. Glad to see you're getting back on the horse for Gasparilla! You know they say the 3rd one's the charm!
For some reason you title made me think of that song "Lights, Camera, Action"
Good plan!
YOU CAN DO IT! Make that marathon your beyotch!!
Oh no! MY first marathon will be Disney in January….I'm totally freaked out now…
YAY for Gasparilla. You'll do awesome.
you are completely inspiring as always!
Too bad I'm not coming to Orlando a few weeks earlier, I'd be there cheering you on! You have a great plan, and experience from the other ones, you'll do AWESOME!
Soooo, I got Morgan's name in the gift exchange… if you can send me over some suggestions that she'd love, lemme know!!!
woo hoo! i felt the same about my first few attempts at marathoning – i slacked in training and then wondered why i didn't do as well as i thought i would on race day (and why i couldn't walk for a week after). make the change, your first third marathon will be a success!
I LOVE it that you consider your first two "trial runs." Hilar! You are going to tear this one up!
Someone is going to kick Tampa's butt!
Looks like a great plan! You'll rock it, no doubt.
Have a good weekend!
