I’m always up for trying a new fitness class and I was stoked when my friend (and LMT/Yogi/Ironman extraordinaire) Lisa suggested we hit up a new gym in Tampa called Soul Rooster. The class descriptions all looked super fun and probably a challenge for my slightly uncoordinated self.
Lisa and I were really interested in Pound. According to the Pound Fit website, “Pound is a full-body cardio jam session, combining light resistance with constant simulated drumming. The workout fuses cardio, Pilates, isometric movements, plyometrics and Isometric poses into a 45-minute series.” (You can find studios that offer Pound HERE.)
Upon arriving at the gym we were greeted and signed the appropriate waivers. The gym is more dance/pilates/barre type set up and really funky, which I loved. We were then given our ripstix. These are bright green, weighted drumsticks. They were super fun to bang together throughout the class. There is a ton of info about the sticks on the Pound website in case you care to know why they are green and how much they weigh.
I had to take a photo of the bathrooms in this gym because they are wall papered with awesome old records. I love me some records and the ones they chose to use!

Sorry for the bad photo.
The class is basically different tracks of music that focus on different things. For example: cardio, core, glutes, etc. The routines are fairly easy and only once did I look like a complete fool. At least I think it was one time. It could have been the whole class for all I know. Ha! I really enjoyed the core section as I know I  need to get in more work there. Plus, the class went by so fast because I was focused on form and hitting the sticks to the beat. The instructor was awesome at showing us the moves before each song but I had a little trouble hearing her over the  music at times. I watched the woman in front of me since she really knew her stuff.
Jason already made the Sriracha joke.
The sticks do help you work your arms the entire class and we were reminded to make the motions sharp and quick. My arms feel a bit sore today and I love that feeling.
I would definitely recommend Soul Rooster and Pound if you are looking for a fun, new workout. I can’t say it’ll be added to my repertoire with my current Ironman training but I will go back when I have more time. I think it would be an awesome girls night out too!
*This is not a sponsored post. I just wanted to try a new class. This is review is because I felt like doing a review. I used a coupon for one free class that they had at a local coffee shop. See? Full disclosure. Ha!
