Today marks the day I leave with 11 other nutjobs and head down to Miami to start the Ragnar Relay – Key West. It’s about 200 miles of running shenanigans. No sleep, maybe a shower, and lots of fun. Having completed Ragnar Florida Central twice and Sunrise to Sunset once, I consider myself a relay pro. However, I’ve actually never been to Key West. Isn’t that crazy? I’ve lived in Florida basically my whole life and this will be my first trip to the southern most point of the continental US. Ain’t that something?
I’m super excited to be running with a group of people who definitely want to get to the Keys quickly, but mostly because they want to start drinking. Heh. I’m also thrilled that when one team member dropped out due to injury (that part sucks) a new and very cute dude could take his place. Yes, I’m talking about the SO. Score!
Ragnars of past hold some of my most favorite running memories and laughs. I’ll never forget Caribbean Steve telling me he needed to wash his balls or P-Funk going “Alien on a plane’s wing” when someone turned on a light while she was sleeping. I also enjoyed the various ways I wound up falling asleep. Good times.
Today I’m thankful for Ragnar and running relays in general. I’m ready to get my Key West on. Let’s do this!
By the way, I’m on team Running Down Our Leg, so give me a shout if you’re out there.
What are you thankful for today?
