Today I’m not only thankful for give aways, I’m also thankful for books. I’m almost 99 percent certain that I’ve been thankful for books before but I just finished up two and I loved one of them so much I’ve got no choice but to share it.

Ok, so there were two books I recently read. One was Atonement by Ian McEwan. Holy jump off a bridge Batman! It was sad. If you like tragic romances then this is the book for you. I saw the movie, (um, hello James McAvoy! Yum!) and thought I should check out the book. While I did like both, I found the movie to be more beautiful than the book which is rare. But it was worth reading anyway.

The other book, that I truly, truly loved was The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. This book is about a boy named Oscar Wao who is basically an overweight, Dominican nerd/fanboy and the curse that seems to haunt his family. This books mixes so many things that I love: LOTR, street slang, Spanglish, Spanish, and lots of hilarious characters. I love the Hispanic culture and historical references in this book and learned a lot about the Dominican Republic by way of the clever footnotes and also because I looked most of it up after reading the novel. You know you like a book when you do that.

But you don’t have to take MY word for it. (Reading Rainbow anyone?)

I am now about to start reading Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. I liked the book American Gods by the same author so I’ll let you all know how this one turns out.

Thank goodness for books! Tell me what books you are thankful for today, I could always use some suggestions.

Ta ta.
