Here it is! Finally! My review of that waterproof iPod I had mentioned a few times before. Sorry it took so dang long. I know you could barely wait for it. Heh.
A company called Underwater Audio contacted me about doing a review for their Waterproof iPod Shuffle. I figured it’d be more fun to swim with actual music versus the tone deaf whale songs coming from my underwater attempts at American Idol. (In all honesty, I swear I sing better than some of those people who actually audition, but that ain’t saying much.)
I received the review iPod and well, it looked just like an iPod. I guess I figured it would be in a case but it’s a straight up regular ol’ iPod. It’s amazing how they waterproof it from the inside out. Directly from the horse’s mouth, er website:
“Underwater Audio uses a proprietary process that is unique to the industry to waterproof your iPod from the inside out, giving you a 100% watertight music player.”
It’s pretty smart, right?
In addition to the waterproof iPod, they sent me the waterproof earphones. I was skeptical about these because I have the worst time with earphones while running. I have big ears. With big ear holes. I can actually hear you laughing right now. You know. Because of my big ears. But, with these big ear holes, the regular iPod earphones always fall out. It’s a total pain in the…ear. However, these earphones do not fall out! They stay in so well that I may start using them on a run here and there.
The earphones come with a few options so you can really customize them to fit your ear holes. I did have to play around with a few options before I found the one that worked best for me. And, yes, water will occasionally get in there, but nothing that a quick tap won’t fix.

Waterproof iPod Shuffle Swimbuds Headphones Bundle
So how does the iPod stay on? Well, that’s super easy. You just clip it to your cap or goggles. See?

They also made the earphone cords short so that you don’t have to wrap them around your head nineteen times. I love that! It also can be used in saltwater, according to the site. I’ve yet to try an OWS with it. I wonder if fish like Uncle Luke?
Why yes, that is Tchaikovsky. Ok fine. It’s Trick Daddy.
The waterproof iPod Shuffle and earphones bundle runs $165, which I think is a steal considering how long it’s supposed to last. (That’s a time will tell thing for me at this point. But so far, so great!)
I am super happy to report that I really like this product. I’d absolutely tell you all different if I didn’t. Pinky swear. I can’t wait to keep using it when my 2014 real tri swim training ramps up. I may never get out of the pool.
