With all that said, I feel as though I have lost a bit of the fire I had during the training for the Marine Corps. Marathon. I am not quite sure why. During that cycle I was a maniac. I was hitting all of my training runs and felt really motivated.
This time around, not so much.
I have been getting most of my runs in, but I haven’t been really consumed with my paces, nor have I been really excited and pushed during each run. I’m not sure if this has to do with being more careful or if it’s something to do with the weather. What’s even more strange is that I am not super freaked out by this. I guess I am just being cautious.
I am very excited for the Gasparilla Marathon however and hope that I feel a little better while running it than I did last year. I think I am going to try channeling some Redhead and perhaps a little bit of her fire will rub off on me this weekend. (Minds out of the gutter here gentlemen!)
First, a gentleman would never have his mind in the gutter. Second, I am no gentleman.
Maybe you're just feeling a little burnt out? But, yes I agree the weather is definitely bringing my mood down! I want the dang dogs out of my house for good! I thought we were out of the woods until we had to bring them back in last night. Boooooooo.
Sometimes you just start feeling a little burnt out. You should just for 1 week go out and run, don't worry about time or pace or schedule. Try a new place or route to run and enjoy it. It may help get the feeling back.
It happens to the best of us, but more importantly don't stress about it, that will only dig the hole deeper. I go through funks all the time, and I LOVE to run. I think D10 is right, just go out to run for the sake of running this week, then get back to training 🙂
Motivation is extra hard to come by during the winter, even if your winter is mild (though you would probably say your winter has been BRUTAL). Winter is the time of death, while spring brings rebirth. The motivation will return. Cheers!
I'm sorry you're not feeling it girl! Hopefully killing it out on the hills will help boost morale! We're going to have a great 20 miler this weekend I just know it! See you Friday!!!
Sometimes it is okat to run for the sake of running, not to beat the horse since two others already stated it. Burn outs happen…I am sure you will be back in full swing in no time!
careful, fire from redheads can be quite infectious. Just warning. Haha!
Better to be out there doing it carefully then injur yourself again, right?
We all go through a burn out period. I've definitely been experiencing one myself! You will get out of this slump in no time!! Stay motivated!
Cheer up, you will be fine:) Everyone goes through little burn-out phases! Being cautious is fine…you will run the way you need to when its race time:) Keep up the good work!
Just wanted to send a flame thrower your way. I have noticed some lack in motivation all around lately. The weather? etc.? Who knows. Just take it one day at a time instead of looking at the big picture. Break it down. Hope this helps. If not, I tried. Hang in there.
For some reason this time of year is making me sluggish too. I have been dragging on my runs and I'm getting tired much earlier. When you figure it out, let me know.
The running love comes and goes . . . I suppose if we were 100% in love all the time, we wouldn't appreciate it as much. 🙂
I was really feeling that way last week. So I spent a few days doing only cross trainig, then went out for a run with my running group and now I'm feeling really pumped again… um and I won't lie I'm soooo happy it's about 40 degrees again!
You'll get that fire back. I'm glad that you aren't hurting anymore. WIN!
Heyyy… I was feeling the same way leading up to the marathons I had this weekend. Just didn't want to push myself or worry about pace. But then I read "Born to Run"… awesome book and gets you reallllly excited about running. Not sure if you already read it. Hope it helps!

It's that time of year, holidays are done, days are shorter, not many races going on…. hang in there, you're probably just being cautious 🙂
i'm going to ditto everyone not focusing on the redhead's fire 🙂
it's definitely hard to be motivated in these darker, colder days! i'm sure the cold has made it even worse since you never get these kinds of temps down there in FL. hopefully when it warms back up to "normal" you'll feel better. i also get a little bummed out like 2/3-3/4 into my training. you've been working for forever and yet still so far away… hang in there!
Everyone's right about running for different reasons to help get you back into the training groove. And I always get concerned when I read someone has ankle issues. If you're familiar with my story, you'll know why. Treat it tenderly.
I know the feeling. I had to go back, reassess my goals, and write them down where I saw them everyday to get the spark back. If you've noticed, I've even started rowing twice a week instead of the short/easy runs. Even with all of that, once the LA Marathon is over in March, I'm taking some time off from training with a race in mind and just running for fun instead. I've learned that I've got to mix it up for things to stay fresh.
I think what you're feeling is just natural because you're coming back from an injury. Subconsciously you're not willing to push as hard so it's not as exciting…it'll come with time though.
On the other hand, I hear Redheads can be quite flammable when they're on fire…just sayin'
