I was thinking about my year in review post and rather than just post a bunch of numbers I figured that I’d use Miss Zippy’s format. I’m early on this post but I do what I want!
Best race experience?
I would definitely say the Cleveland Half Marathon. I got to stay the weekend with Red & Spike and ran a PR that I pulled out of my butt. I had no real expectations for this race and ran with two random guys that helped pull me along. The overall trip was awesome and I really enjoyed the cool temperatures and course.
Best run?
Hm. This is a tough one since I did some travelling this year. But, I have to say the ten miler I ran while visiting a friend in California. The scenery along the beach was gorgeous, the weather was perfect, and the post run meal at Patrick’s in Santa Barbara was amazing.
Best new piece of gear?
Since I did buy Dolly (my road bike) this year, I’d have to go with her. Even though we had some trouble getting used to each other (SEE: tipping over repeatedly) and she’s currently getting dusty, I’m very eager to get back out there after Miami. I just don’t trust myself to not fall down and go boom before that race. I know I probably wouldn’t since I haven’t in a while, but just in cases….In any event, she’s helped me get through some tough tri’s and I hope to get better on the bike in 2012.
Best piece of running advice you received?
“Trust in your training young Jedi.” -Coach EK
“You’re going to eat lightning and you’re going to crap thunder” -Jason from Cook Train Eat Race quoting Rocky(not really advice per say but along the lines of believe in yourself!)
Most inspirational runner?
For people I know in “real” life I’ve got no choice but to go with KC on this one. She really amazed me with her time at IMFL (Ironman Florida). The girl hauls.
Also I’d like to give a special shout out to Red who has struggled with a stoopid injury and showed real grace getting through it. She’s been supportive of all of my races even when she couldn’t run and I can only imagine how tough it’s been. Happy to report that she’s back at it! Hallelujah!
And for folks I don’t actually know I’m going with the lady who had the baby after the marathon and that really old guy who ran a marathon. HA!
If you could sum up your year in a couple of words, what would they be?
If I could sum up my year with regards to racing I’d say, “Fun with friends and perservering!”
What’s your year looked like? Feel free to leave your responses in the comments too if you don’t want to blog them.
ok, i'm officially blushing …as i turn my desk fan on. kind words indeed and thank you!
i have 2 posts (sorta kinda) to publish (they are only in my head not officially in draft mode) and as soon as those are done, i shall also do the Ms. Zippy running year in review post.
Great stuff here young Jedi grasshopper!
Good thing you got that PR out of your butt! That's what probably slowed you down! Great year B.o.b. I know 2012 is going to be a blur….
Sounds like you had a great year! It's been fun following it all!
I'll tell you what I told Amanda. My year? Fucking awesome.
I would like to thank the Academy for this award. I would also like to thank Tim Tebow for all his awesomeness. To my friends and family thank you for being there for me no matter what.
Being mentioned in a blog post as awesome as BoB's is huge but then pair that with the fact that the awesome KC is in the same report and well…..I am beyond honored and humbled.
Thank you so much and I look forward to 2012 and trying to create another best running advice that is not running advice at all but more of a believe in yourself statement that I stole from an Irish White Guy in a movie about an Italian boxer out of Philadelphia who was fighting a black guy named Apollo Creed.
Thank you again!
There is nothing quite like pulling a PR out of one's butt. Wonder what else is up there – another PR perhaps?
I really enjoyed this post! Fun way to look over your year. I may even copy your method and do this over on my very neglected blog.
Jason's quote is rather funny! Leave it to "that" guy =)
Here comes 2012!
I stole MissZippy's format as well. It made it wayyy easier.
Congrats on a great year and all the best for 2012.
Personal Best Moment – setting a 7 minute PR in the marathon in April, and following up with a solid race at Ironman-Lake Placid after a tough for me non-wetsuit swim.
Others Best Moment – seeing others (too many to mention here), especially those I have helped, PR at various races, many at their longest race distance attempted/accomplished! (including seeing my sister, Tish and Kristen finish there first 1/2 Ironman at Augusta 70.3!)
Worst moment – realizing I pushed the bike too hard for conditions and was going to have to just gut it out the last 10 miles on the run at Augusta 70.3.
Great year! And then you'll kick of 2012 in the best way possible, with a shiny new marathon PR!
i love this! i might have to do it to. yay for pulling a PR out of your butt, now that's something 😉
Awww you love me and I love you! And I'm so glad that even not running, I still got to be a part of your year. I love you and you mean so much to me. I am so proud of the year you had, you showed everyone just how badass you really are and next year the sky is the limit! Get it boo!
i voted for red too 🙂 though i forgot about that prego woman, that was pretty insane.
Congrats on pulling a PR out of your butt! I know that lightened you up a lot. So I'm sure you're feeling much better. Congrats on 2011 … now on to an awesome 2012! Happy Holiday! http://www.dashingdiva.net
